Mexico Affordable Housing

Mexico Affordable Housing

This proposal for affordable housing uses the ideals of new urbanism, drawing upon historical precedents attempting to restore a sense of community, blending the ideology of the past with the technology of today to achieve a higher standard of living for its citizens. Colonial precedents served as inspiration in defining the pattern, hierarchy, scale and proportion of this project. It is composed of four blocks, surrounding an open space, and shifted to create a pinwheel. The central plaza is the key to fostering a “sense of community”. Each Block is made up of fourteen houses which are either one or two bedroom units allowing for expansion as the family grows. The houses each have a secure private yard and have the mixed use option allowing the homeowner to function as a bussiness proprietor
